NaviGenie revolutionizes mobile navigation with real-time streaming fully textured 3D maps to mass market handsets using minimal bandwidth.

NaviGenie 3D Mobile Navigation Framework includes three components. NaviGenie Data Conversion Server optimize and compress standard 2D and 3D vector based map formats for low-bandwidth mobile use based on a standard Oracle database backend. The server is fully compatible with Navteq and Tele Atlas all 2D and 3D map products. NaviGenie 3D Map Streamer streams the optimized output of NaviGenie Data Conversion Server to mobile clients real-time. NaviGenie 3D Navigation Client is a small (executable size is less than 400 kilobytes), highly portable application which can be easily installed on most mobile handsets. It requests and receives real-time maps from NaviGenie 3D Map Streamer, decodes and renders them using the most appropriate methods available on the device.

Thanks to enhanced NaviGenie data optimization techniques full 3D city maps with textured landmarks can be streamed at 40 kilobits per second average rate at 50 km/h car speed. As maximum walking speed is 4-5 km/h the bandwidth required for pedestrian navigation is less than 5 kilobits per second. This makes a serious difference in end user phone bills when unlimited data plans are not available.

NaviGenie compression technology can save data storage requirements for on board navigation systems in handheld and preinstalled automotive systems. NaviGenie can also be used in mixed mode environments where the network facility is only used for the regular map updates which are cached on the navigation device.
